MOBILE, Ala. |
Ryley Harrison tossed her third shutout of the season and South Alabama scored a run in each of the first five innings Sunday as the Jaguars captured a 5-0 win on day three of the South Alabama Invitational held at Jaguar Field to extend their win streak to four games.
Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the weekend: "This weekend was huge for us. We opened the season playing lights out, and then we hit a little bit of a dip where we were struggling and scuffling a little bit. To our players' credit, they got it turned around. These were good, solid teams we played this weekend. I thought for the most part that we fired on all cylinders. We were able to get great starting pitching all weekend. Our offense continued to keep its foot on the gas and apply pressure pretty much throughout the whole weekend."
- On
Ryley Harrison: "I thought she was great. (North Alabama) is a very good offensive team. They entered today putting up a lot of runs and for her to keep them off balance and shut them out was huge. We had a lot of respect for them and knew what they were capable of doing offensively, so I'm proud of her for what she did today."
Junior RHP Ryley Harrison
- On her work in the circle: "I was just pounding the zone and was able to get ahead a lot. I was able to get the leadoff batter out most of the time, so when that happens, we are usually very successful. Our defense got fed a lot of ground balls and pop ups today, and they did a phenomenal job.
- On getting the run support: "This weekend, we were really honing in as a team on getting ahead and staying ahead. Our offense was really trying to add on runs each inning. In the circle, it helps you as a pitcher to know that you have those types of leads."
