MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Athletics has appointed
Dr. Peter Rippey as its new Intercollegiate Athletics Medical Director.
Rippey is entering his sixth year working with the Jaguars as a team physician.
"Since 2021, Dr. Rippey has served as a team physician for South Alabama Athletics," said Jinni Frisbey, senior associate athletic director, senior woman administrator & Title IX coordinator. "We are
grateful for his service, and we look forward to the expertise and vision he will bring to this
important role as the Intercollegiate Athletics Medical Director."
Dr. Rippey completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri in occupational therapy. After two years of practice as an OT he returned to medical school at Mizzou. He completed his residency in family medicine and his fellowship training in sports medicine at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL. He has covered a multitude of local and national events including the Daytona 500, US Tennis, Rock N' Roll Marathon and the 2022 World Games. In 2024 he was honored to be selected as an AMSSM International Traveling Fellow. He is the program director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at USA Health.
