HARRISONBURG, Va. – South Alabama women's basketball fell on the road to James Madison on Saturday, 88-52.
KEY MOMENTS:
- JMU got off to a hot start, going on a 6-0 run and forcing the Jaguars to take a timeout. The Dukes continued their momentum, building the score to 14-0 before Alicia Spann put in a layup.
- Tamara Ortiz and Daniela Gonzalez answered for the Jaguars late in the first quarter, each draining a three-pointer. Despite holding JMU to 3-for-7 from the field in the latter five minutes of the quarter, the Dukes would lead the Jags 23-8 by the end.
- The Jaguars answered in the second quarter, Cordasia Harris and Diawna Carter-Hartley leading the Jaguars to a 5-0 run.
- In the third quarter, the Dukes turned on the heat, going on a 19-0 run. 10 of those points were scored by Peyton McDaniel – the 2025 Sun Belt Player of the Year and this year's Preseason Player of the Year.
- The Jaguars closed out the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, led by a six-point sequence from Daniela Gonzalez. Meanwhile, South's backcourt would hold JMU to 0-for-6 from the field. The Dukes would ultimately defeat the Jaguars 88-52.
KEY STATS:
- Chrysta Narcisse grabbed 10 rebounds, a career-high over her previous eight (Georgia State, 2/13/25).
- Alicia Spann had an impressive performance, scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds – setting a new season high in scoring and tying her career high in rebounds.
- The Jaguars shot 33.3% from downtown, the highest since their victory over ULM on Jan. 10.
- Daniela Gonzalez went 3-for-7 from beyond the arc, 4-for-12 from the field and a perfect 1-for-1 from the charity stripe.

The Jaguars will return to the Mitchell Center to host Marshall in a midweek matchup at 7 p.m. CST on Wednesday in Mobile, Ala.
