MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Men's Tennis senior
Javier Montoya has been named Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after playing a solid pair of matches.
Montoya went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles in a win over rival Troy and loss against Old Dominion.
Against DePaul, Montoya led the Jaguars to a 5-2 team vicotory. His impact started in doubles play when he teamed up with
Braden Hannig to earn a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot to help the Jags win the doubles point. Later, at No. 1 singles, Montoya took down DePaul's Matteo Iaquinto by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Later in the week, South Alabama challenged Old Dominion and Montoya picked up a dominant singles win at the No. 1 position. Montoya defeated ODU's Rolland De Ravel in straight sets by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Montoya and the Jags will be back in action on Saturday, April 5 at Louisiana. First serve is at 10 a.m. CT.
