MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama softball will head back out on the road this week for a key three-game Sun Belt Conference road series with Louisiana at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. The two teams are scheduled to open the series on Thursday at 4 p.m., with game two of the series set for a 6 p.m. start on Friday, and the series finale set for Saturday at 2 p.m.

South Alabama (17-24, 6-8 SBC) enters the conference series versus Louisiana (20-22, 6-9 SBC) after taking two of three from Marshall last weekend. The two clubs split the first two games of the series with the Jags earning a 5-3 victory on Friday night, and the Herd evening the series with a 7-5 win on Saturday. On Sunday,
Olivia Branstetter drove in the game-winning run with a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Branstetter was 7-for-10 at the plate in the series and reached base safely in nine of her 12 plate appearances, as she was also hit by a pitch and walked. With her outstanding week, Branstetter is now batting .299.
Frankie Andujo and
Stephanie Gonzalez were also instrumental in the series win. Andujo batted .500 and drove in four in the finale, while Gonzalez recorded four of her seven RBI in the series on Sunday.
South's offense carried the load in the series, batting .364 and averaging nearly seven runs a game. In their prior nine games, which saw the Jaguars go 1-8, the offense averaged just 2.67 runs per game and batted .187 over the nine-game stretch.
Gabby Stagner added two more records to her illustrious career in the series opener as she recorded her 37th home run and her 37th multi-RBI game, passing former Jags Kamdyn Kvistad and
Victoria Ortiz in those categories, respectively. Stagner also holds the career RBI record at South as she has driven in 143 runs during her career. Stagner (.346) leads the team in several offensive categories as she has 10 home runs, holds a .692 slugging percentage and a team-high 36 RBI.
She is tied for third in triples (3), and also ranks among the league leaders as she is ninth in home runs, slugging percentage, and RBI (ninth), and 10th in OPS. Stagner has a team-best 12 multi-RBI games this season and is also tied for the team lead in multi-hit games with nine.
Presley Lively is batting .293 and the true freshman ranks second in the Sun Belt triples (4) and is tied for the league lead in walks (25), while her 15 stolen bases are tied for fourth most in the SBC and she is eighth in runs scored (37). Lively has scored two or more runs in 11 games this spring, and she also has nine multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games, the latter tied with Branstetter for second-most on the Jaguar roster. Nine of Lively's 34 hits have gone for extra bases, including an inside-the-park home run. Led by Lively's four triples, South Alabama is tied for 42nd nationally with 11.
Branstetter and
Megan Davidson have been hit by pitch eight and seven times, respectively, which ranks in the Top 10 of the league.
As a team, South is tied for second in triples, and ranks third in hit-by-pitch (36) – 20th in the NCAA – and tied for fourth in sacrifice flies (13).
In the circle,
Ryley Harrison leads the club with seven wins and the sophomore holds a 2.84 earned run average, while she has also struck out 76 batters. In conference play, Harrison has allowed just eight earned runs in her 38.1 innings of work for a 1.46 ERA, which is second lowest among league pitchers, while she has also struck out 37, which is second, as well as her 12 strikeouts looking. Harrison ranks in the Top 10 of the league in ERA (seventh), innings pitched (eighth), strikeouts (ninth), strikeouts looking (t-fourth) and saves (t-fourth).
