NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama Track and Field Athlete Reuben Booysen was tabbed as Men's Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week after a dominant performance in the Javelin at LSU, the league announced Thursday.
Booysen launched a monstrous throw of 72.45 meters (237-08) to claim the win and shatter the original school record of 69.63 meters (228-05) set by Justin Cummins in 2004. Not only did Booysen set a new program high, but he also broke a Lurline Hamilton Invitational record and owns the fourth-farthest throw in the nation.
The Johannesburg, South Africa native is the first Jag to receive a Sun Belt Athlete of the Week Accolade this outdoor season and the second overall this year as Sebastian Loschner earned the award on Jan.22 during indoors.
South Alabama is headed to Hattiesburg, Miss. to compete in the Southern Miss Invitational on March 28-29.
