MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama Track and Field team tallied 15 event wins, and several athletes moved up the all-time school record books as the Jaguars concluded an impressive opening outdoor weekend at Jaguar Track in the South Alabama Invitational.
The competition began Friday afternoon with the javelin, and the Jaguars wasted no time picking up first-place finishes. Dylan Hale won the men's side, hurling a throw of 62.16 meters, and Jackson Laughlin snagged second place with a personal best toss of 59.41 meters. On the women's side, Calli Stokes scored 43.73 meters to secure the win, and Karleigh Mills took second with a 39.41-meter throw.
South Alabama remained on top throughout the afternoon. Fresh off an All-Conference performance in the indoor season, Dianna Goodman recorded a pole vault of 3.73 meters to earn first place. Will Frederick continued a stellar start to his freshman campaign and picked up a win in the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.95 meters.
In the women's high jump, Kayden Engel cleared 1.64 meters and clinched first place overall in the competition. Kosta Zografos had a monstrous personal best for the Jaguar men, reaching 2.09 meters; this is the No.3 ranked mark in the entire country this season and the No.2 all-time ranking in the Jaguar record books.
Over in the throwers circle, Samuel Mika claimed first place in the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 58.14 meters, moving him into No.6 all-time in the event for South Alabama. Iyana Johnson logged a throw of 56.57 meters in the women's competition to earn the win, improving her all-time ranking in the USA record books to No.7.
Day one concluded under the lights with 3000-meter races. Clervie Chagot got things rolling with a time of 10:45.10 to take first place, and Carson Barlow cruised to a win on the men's side, posting a time of 8:31.26.
The second day started with more impressive times from the USA distance crew. Charleen Elizondo cruised to a time of 4:55.79 to win the women's 1500 meters.
Freshmen Jadon Thomason and Presleigh Montalvo both had phenomenal days. Thomason won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.01, finishing a tenth of a second off the school record. He followed up that performance by placing first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.67. Montalvo bolted to her first win of her outdoor career, clocking a time of 24.75 in the 200 meters, besting the rest of her competition by nearly two seconds.
Allie Germann opened her junior season, securing a win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09, ranking her No.10 all-time for South Alabama in the event.
Jordan Morrison finished in first place in the men's 400 meters while posting a time of 49.33.
The Men's 4x400 Meter Relay crew, consisting of Morrison, Ben Klapp, Tre Hill, and Frederick closed the day with a win after recording a time of 3:22.48.
