MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama returns to Stanky Field after a four game road stretch to Atlanta, Ga. and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
South Alabama was swept on the road in their conference opening series, losing 9-2, 3-0, and 15-14. The Jags then traveled up to face No. 12 Alabama in a midweek challenge, falling in 10 innings, 6-5.
SERIES HISTORY
South Alabama and Louisiana's rivalry is one of the longest and most storied in Jaguar history. Dating back to 1975, South Alabama and Louisiana have met on the diamond 128 times. The Jags boast the record lead, 71-57, but the Cajuns have the edge in recent matchups, winning seven of the last 10 meetings and have won the last three series. The last time the Jaguars won a series over Louisiana was in a home sweep in April of 2021.Â
SCOUTING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Louisiana stopped in Hammond, La. for a midweek challenge against Southeastern Louisiana, losing 7-1. The Ragin' Cajuns opened conference play going 1-2 against No. 21 Troy, winning the final game of the series. Louisiana is 1-4 in series, taking two games over No. 23 Nebraska. Overall, Louisiana has played 12 ranked games, with a 4-8 overall record, going 0-3 against No. 20 UC-Irvine, and 1-2 against No. 21 Dallas Baptist. The Ragin' Cajuns have yet to win a game on the road.
HIT PARADES FOR THE HOME OF MARDI GRASÂ
The Jaguar dugout debuted a new celebratory tradition against Jacksonville the weekend before Mardi Gras, a collection of red, white, and blue colored bead necklaces. In the seven games after the debut of the beads, South Alabama's offense surged. South went 5-2, averaging 9.1 runs/game, 12.1 hits/game, and 4.1 XBH/game. As the birthplace of Mardi Gras, the Jags have adopted a popular tradition of the holiday as a celebration for when a runner scores and returns to the dugout.
