Jaguar Offense overwhelms Jacksonville Pitching in 10-5 Victory

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jags' (7-5) pitching held strong as the offense worked through the Jacksonville (4-7) bullpen to a 10-5 win and series victory.

Lucas Ismaili notched two RBI in the first inning on a double when the bases were loaded with only one out. The Dolphins scored one back in the second inning, then went on a four-run, two-out rally in the third for the 5-2 lead. The Jags returned the favor in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs of their own by loading the bases and forcing the Jacksonville starter into a jam. By the end of the inning South had retaken the lead and never gave it up.

There was little action in the fourth and fifth innings, with no runs added, but the Jags again loaded the bases in the sixth with a walk after Ismaili singled another runner home. Miranda made the best of it with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 9-5. USA held off the Dolphin offense thanks to sophomore lefty Jaxon Shineflew's bullpen relief. Shineflew went 3.1 innings with four strikeouts, no walks, and only one hit before handing the reins to Andrew Floyd. Floyd worked up and down the lineup for 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and two walks, earning his second save of the season. Kyle Morrison put the nail in the coffin with an RBI double in the seventh inning to double the Dolphins' score.

Win: Jaxon Shineflew (1-1)
Save: Andrew Floyd (2)
Loss: Colin Rothermel (1-2)

QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi

On the pitching performance today: Chase was fine. He should have been, you know, he should have been out of the inning. He should have gone three innings and given up no runs. You know, we just didn't help him defensively. I thought Chase was really good. He wasn't as good as last week. He wasn't as crisp. His command was a little bit off, you know, he was behind some guys, but I thought Chase, all things considered, did everything that I expected him to do, minus a couple walks in there. But he showed poison composure. We made some errors behind him. (He) wasn't looking around, wasn't looking into the dugout for help, and he got his pitches in. You know, we wanted to let him go 50, but it was time to get him out and that's what we did. So I thought, Chase was, he wasn't as good as he was last week, but he was fine. He was fine. He's going to be really good, all things considered. Shineflew was the answer today, no doubt. I thought going into the weekend, I didn't think he'd be available for this weekend, but he's feeling a lot better. Alison's done a great job with him, our athletic trainer, and Shineflew turned the game around. I mean, three and a third innings, one hit, four strikeouts, a bunch of pop ups. We played good D behind him, he settled it down. Came in and relief of Kangas and did a really nice job. So the last, the last six and the third innings, we gave up three hits and no runs and two walks. So Shineflew to Floyd. That was six and third innings of just shut down relief out of the pen.

South Alabama will take to the road for a weekend series in Ruston, Louisiana against Louisiana Tech.
