BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kyle Rademeyer claimed the third indoor Men's Pole Vault Championship Title of his career and made history with a school record breaking mark on Day one of the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships for the South Alabama Track and Field program at the Birmingham Crossplex Monday.
The Jaguars are fifth in the men's competition with 23.5 points at the end of day one, while the women are 10th with seven points.
Rademeyer, who finished as the only all-conference athlete on day one of the competition, made history in the men's pole vault, setting a new school record, meet record, and Sun Belt record with a clearance of 5.73m (18-9.5). This mark, which ranks third in the NCAA, also represents a personal best for the former outdoor national champion.
The Jags started the day with solid performances in the Heptathlon and Pentathlon. Megan Hamilton Strong had a strong day for the Jaguar Women, finishing in sixth place overall with 3459 total points in the pentathlon, which is the No.6 overall point total in the USA record books.
On the men's side, Nic Glass and Samuel Warriner both posted impressive finishes in the heptathlon, and both rank in the top five with three more events in tomorrow's competition. Glass sits in third place with 2917 points and two personal records in 60 meters (7.24) and the long jump (7.05 meters). The savvy freshman Warriner is in fifth with 2820 points and a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.97 meters (6 '5.5).
In the 60-meter hurdle prelims three different athletes qualified for tomorrow's finals. Kendal White clocked a time of 7.99 to take third. Jadon Thomason finished right behind in fourth place with a time of 8.06, and freshman RJ Torbor grabbed the final qualifying spot in eighth with a time of 8.34.
Iyana Johnson placed eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.29 meters (60 '1/4) and moved into No.6 all-time for South Alabama in the event.
Carson Barlow finished fifth place in the men's 5000 meters with a personal best time of 14:43.89.
Samuel Mika took fifth in the weight with a heave of 17.93 meters (58'10")

The Jags will look to gain some ground during day two of the competition. Day two will begin with the last three events of the heptathlon at 10 a.m. CT and concludes with the Men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:40 p.m. CT.
