MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – South Alabama Men's Tennis dropped is opening match of the Battle in the Boro to New Mexico Friday afternoon by a score of 6-1.
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 2-6 overall for the year.
"The score was 6-1, but it was definitely closer than the score indicates," said head coach Nick Brochu. "We had a lot of big battles today. We dropped a lot of first sets and then fought back, but it's always tough to play from behind. Overall, I thought today was a good match. We just need to work on making less mistakes on big points. I don't know if it's nerves or something else, but we just need to work on staying focused and play your A-game on big points. That can be the difference between winning and losing."
While South managed to keep the majority of Friday's matches close,
Braden Hannig was the only Jaguar able to break through for a victory. Hannig knocked off New Mexico's Georgia Samaha 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles position.
Tomorrow's action will resume with South Alabama taking on Utah at 10 a.m. CT.
