South Scores Big Win over No. 55 Utah

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  – South Alabama Men's Tennis bounced back in a big way Saturday, scoring its biggest win of the season by beating No. 55 Utah 4-2.

The victory improved the Jaguars' record to 3-6 for the year and snapped a five-match losing streak.

"What a match today," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "We met today before the match and talked about our team and our season. We talked about the need to start focusing on what we do on a daily basis rather than focusing on our record. Today was a humungous step forward. Everybody gave their best effort and everybody was zoned in. We proved to ourselves today that we have a team that is capable of winning the conference."

USA dropped the doubles point to open the match, but went down swinging. Juan Accossatto and Romeo Hadzimehmedovic teamed up to win 6-4 to give the Jags a chance, but Victor Frumholz and Harold van Raemdonck could not quite clinch their match, losing narrowly in a tiebreak.

When the match moved on to singles, South came out firing and dominated the No.55 team in the country. Braden Hannig got the Jags on the scoreboard first by knocking off Max Relic from Utah 6-1, 6-2. He was followed by Harold van Raemdonck who clinched a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Juan Accossatto then put the Jaguars within a point of victory b defeating his Ute opponent 6-4, 6-4.

Utah would win its lone singles match of the day on court five, but Hadzimehmedovic clinched the contest for the Jags by defeating Reid Jarvis of the Utes 7-5, 6-4.

South Alabama will close out the weekend tournament Sunday against Middle Tennessee. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
