MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Track and Field is ready for a weekend of split competition as they will send athletes to the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge and the Samford Bulldog Invite on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb.15.
The Jags will face off against 57 other programs at the Music City Challenge, including some of the top in the competition in the country. Notes
- Three Jaguar teams are ranked in the top 20 in the country in the USTFCCCA event squad rankings.
- Loschner continued his impressive start to the season by breaking the indoor shot put record for the third time in his career at the South Alabama Invitational, logging a throw of 18.15 meters (59 '6.75"), winning the competition and beating his previous record of 18.10 meters ( 59-3.75). Additionally, he moved into ninth place in the record books in the weight throw after posting a toss of 17.71 meters (58 '1.25"). Loschner was named Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week after a fourth-place finish at the season opening Samford Invitational in the shot put with a toss of 17.98 meters (59 '0).
- In the first competition of his final indoor season, former national champion Kyle Rademeyer placed first in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.60 meters (18'4.5") to earn an immediate NCAA qualifying position. Rademeyer now ranks fourth in the entire country in the pole vault.
- In his second collegiate meet, Will Frederick secured third in the pole vault by launching to a clearance of 5.23 meters (17 '1.75"), taking third place in the competition and fourth in the all-time USA rankings.
- On the women's side, Iyana Johnson had a day registering two top two finishes in the weight throw and the triple jump. Johnson picked up her first win of the season in the weight throw by recording a heave of 18.26 meters (59'11") to move into sixth on the all-time list. She followed up that performance with a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.88 meters (38 '11.75").
- Two Jaguar women finished first and second in the pole vault. Alexis Gratia won the event with a dominant clearance of 3.80 meters (12 '5.50") while Dianna Goodman earned second with a jump of 3.65 meters (11' 11.75").
- The competition in the Birmingham Crossplex will be the third this season and the last before the conference championships.
