ATLANTA – Rachel Leggett recorded a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double while
Chrysta Narcisse added 17 points and eight rebounds of her own, but it was not enough as South Alabama Women's Basketball came up short to Georgia State, 78-69 in double overtime Thursday morning at the GSU Convocation Center.
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 5-19 overall and 1-12 in Sun Belt Conference play.
South came out of the gate strong, securing an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. That momentum carried into the second quarter as the Jags were able to grow their lead to five, taking a 36-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime. It was South's 3-point shooting that gave it a big lift with the Jags knocking down five threes through the first-20 minutes of play.
USA's hot 3-point spree continued to start the second half, but Georgia State gradually chipped away at the Jags' lead as South's shooting started to go cold. The Panthers fought back to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but could not separate as Leggett his a layup with 46 second remaining to tie the score at 61 apiece and force overtime.
Both teams could only manage three points in the first overtime period as the game went to a second overtime with the score knotted at 64. In that final-five minutes, Georgia State exploded for 14 points with the Jags only managing five addition points.
