STATESBORO, Ga. – Despite three Jaguars scoring in double figures, South Alabama Women's Basketball dropped a road contest at Georgia Southern, 95-68, Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars' record fell to 5-20 for the year with the defeat.
Michiyah Simmons led the attack for South Alabama on the day with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. She was joined in double figures by
Rachel Leggett and
Daniela Gonzalez with 12 and 11, respectively. Despite the tough result, the Jags shot the ball well from field on a 55 percent clip. It was turnovers that haunted South on the day as the Jags gave the ball away 19 times compared to just eight for the Eagles.
South kept things close in the first half, making multiple runs and creating offense in bunches, but Georgia Southern scored 29 points off turnovers to pull away in the second half and put the game out of reach. Despite the loss, South Alabama got a strong performance from its reserves, outscoring the Eagles 31-8 in bench points.
