Late Rally Not Enough as Jags Fall to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, the South Alabama men's basketball team mounted a ferocious comeback to even the game, but in the end it was not enough as UAB walked away with an 80-72 victory Friday night in Bartow Arena. • The Jags struggled to find their footing in the first half as UAB closed the period on an 11-3 first-half run with eight second-chance points, securing a 36-26 advantage heading into the break.
  • South had more of the same struggles to begin the second half, as UAB stretched its lead to the largest of the night, holding a 47-34 advantage with 14:51 on the clock.
  • South Alabama punched back with an 11-4 run behind a flurry of Harris driving layups and three-pointers from Olsen and Brady to pull within four points, 56-52 at the 8:21 mark.
  • After UAB stretched its lead back to double figures, the Jags continued to find answers and bolted on a 14-6 spurt highlighted by an And-one layup from Hawthorne and a Hawthorne dime to Law to tie the game at 67-67 with 2:56 remaining.
  • The Blazers were too strong on this night as they rocketed out on a 13-5 run off three triples down the stretch to secure the win.
