MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Soccer (9-3-2, 5-1-2) is set to host Texas State (8-2-5, 5-0-3) in the Jags' home finale at 6 p.m. on Friday at The Cage in Mobile, Ala. The Bobcats come to Our City tied for the top spot in the Sun Belt, while the Jags are in third place.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Jags are 10-1-3 overall against the Bobcats, their last match resulting in a 0-0 draw on Oct. 24, 2024, at Bobcat Soccer Complex in San Marcos, Texas.
SCOUTING THE JAGS:
- South Alabama heads into the match after a massive road victory over JMU on Friday (10/17), where Sofia Mastracci scored her first collegiate goal and Sierra Giorgio recorded five saves, shutting out the Sun Belt's leader in total goals, points and game-winning goals.
- Sierra Giorgio was named this week's Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after securing her sixth clean sheet of the season against JMU. She ranks first in the Sun Belt in goals-against average (.721) and shutouts (six) and second in save percentage (.822).
- The Jags rank first in the conference in goal differential (19), goals-against average (.786) and shutout percentage (.571), of which they also rank 22nd nationally.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS:
- Texas State comes to Mobile after a dominant victory over Southern Miss on Saturday (10/18), 6-1. Alexis Montgomery and Jenny Ngankem each had a brace.
- The Bobcats lead the conference in eight statistical categories, each of which they also rank in the top-20 nationally. Notably, they rank sixth in the nation in shot accuracy.
DOWN TO THE WIRE:
Friday's match poses major implications for the SBC Championship Tournament. Texas State is tied for first with ULM, each team with 18 points. The Jags have 17 points, and a win could send them to first.
