Senior Journals: One More Time Around the Bases with Marley Sims

Each Monday throughout the season, one of our 2024 seniors will give fans a view through their eyes as they recap the previous week. On tap this week is shortstop Marley Sims.

Hi everyone, my name is Marley Sims and I will be doing this week's journal as we travel to play No. 17 Mississippi State and a conference series at Georgia State.

Tuesday
Today was an early morning for me. I intern with Athletics Fan Engagement every Tuesday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I also have an 11 a.m. class, so immediately after my internship, I had to book it for class. Softball-wise, today we began preparing for our big week ahead. We had an open field and afternoon weight groups.

Wednesday
Today is game day. We departed Jaguar Field at 10:30 a.m. to head to Starkville for today's game against No. 17 Mississippi State. We headed to Starkville, and stopped at Sweet Peppers Deli once we arrived. Our game tonight was at 6 p.m., so we arrived early to give ourselves some time to eat, chill, and then get ready for our game. We ended up getting the win, 2-0! Mackenzie Brasher jumped on them quickly with a base hit to start the game, then scored after a pair of wild pitches. Tori Miller pitched an amazing game, and Olivia Lackie was able to come in and shut them down towards the end of the game. After the game, we loaded up on the bus and drove about 20 minutes to a hotel in Columbus, Miss., where we ate dinner and stayed the night, so we could wake up and drive
to Atlanta for our conference series.

Thursday
Today, we woke up, loaded the bus, and got on the road to head to Atlanta. Once we arrived, we had a short weights circuit on the field, then a short hitting and fielding session. We wrapped up, then headed to the hotel for dinner and rest.

Friday – Series Opener vs. Georgia State
Game day is here. Game time is not until 5 p.m. (ET), so we woke up, had breakfast, then moved to recovery and treatment groups. Once we finished with these groups, we got dressed and headed to Mahana Fresh for some lunch. We then headed back to the hotel, got dressed and ready for the game, and then headed to the field. On the way to the field, we had about a 30-minute drive, so we were able to play some music and have a jam session right before the game. We were able to pull the win in this game 7-2, which was a great start for us to the weekend. We then head back to the hotel for dinner and rest for another tomorrow.

Saturday – Double Header / Braves Game
Today, we got the text that our Sunday game was moved to today due to weather rolling in on Sunday. So, today we plan to play a doubleheader. We woke up, ate breakfast, and then departed the hotel at 10:15 a.m. (ET) to head to the field for our 1 p.m. (ET) game. We had another jam session on the way to the field and continued all the way until warm-up time. We quickly got the win for both of these games to conclude the series with a sweep. This gives us a lot of momentum going into the next week for our conference rival against Troy.

After the games, we quickly made it back to the hotel to get ready for the Braves vs. Rangers game at Truist Park. We had a lot of fun at this game and we were very fortunate to be able to go and spend some time here. It was a lot of girls' first Major League game, including mine, so we were all excited to go to this game. The Braves won and we all had a lot of fun. We then headed back to the hotel and got ready to travel home on Sunday.

Thank you for reading about our week and if you're not doing anything, head up to Troy for our series! Go Jags!
