MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama, despite holding multiple-run leads in two of the three games this weekend, is swept in the conference opening series by Georgia State.
After a promising start with a 7-1 lead, Georgia State flipped the score to 8-7 in the fifth inning and proceeded to blank the Jags the rest of the way, with the final being 10-7. A valiant performance out of the bullpen by
Seth Carter, who went four innings and only allowed one run was not enough for the Jags to work a comeback.
Will Turner was the lone offensive bright spot, scoring three runs on two walks and a double.Â
In the second game, the Jaguars struggled from start to finish, unable to reach base and generate contact, while also unable to halt the Panther offense. Georgia State struck five home runs off the USA pitchers, with three solo shots coming in the top of the fifth. A four-run eighth inning gave run-rule eligibility and the Jags didn't overcome the benchmark in the bottom of the inning, ending things after the eighth.
