South Alabama Heads to T-Mobile Crimson Classic This Weekend

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama will head north this weekend and compete at the T-Mobile Crimson Classic hosted by No. 10 Alabama at Rhoads Stadium. 

The Jaguars (10-4) will open up tournament action on Friday with a pair of games beginning with Northern Iowa (8-3) at 1:30 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. contest with the Crimson Tide (16-0). South will face the same two opponents on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. South Alabama and No. 15 Arizona (16-1) will close out the tournament on Sunday with first pitch versus the Wildcats set for 10 a.m.

South Alabama enters the T-Mobile Crimson Classic after going 2-2 last weekend at the Gamecock Invitational with the highlight of the weekend coming with a 5-2 victory over then 17th-ranked South Carolina on the Gamecocks' home field. 

Gabby Stagner leads the team with a .477 average and a .955 slugging percentage, while she has a team-high 21 hits on the year with 11 of those going for extra bases. The Mobile, Ala., native also leads the team with 14 RBI and has scored 14 runs, and leads the team with seven multi-hit games and four multi-RBI efforts. 

Freshman Olivia Branstetter ranks second on the team with a .366 batting average and she is tied with Stagner for the team lead in doubles with five. Sasha Willems and Mackenzie Brasher are both batting .354 this spring. Willems has driven in eight runs and scored seven times, while catching all 92 innings behind the plate, and like Willems, Brasher has 17 hits and has scored a team-best 15 runs. She is 10-for-10 on the base paths and ranks 19th nationally in stolen bases.

Olivia Lackie (7-2) holds a 0.80 earned run average and has struck out 64 batters, while holding opponents to a .134 batting average. On Sunday versus James Madison, Lackie moved into second place all-time at South in career strikeouts (736). Lackie's seven victories are tied for third most nationally, while she is also among the NCAA leaders in strikeouts (fourth), strikeouts per seven innings (10.3, 11th) and tied for 40th in ERA. Freshman Ryley Harrison (3-1) holds a 1.31 ERA this spring and is third nationally in shutouts with three.
