Box Score MOBILE, Ala.- In a rematch of last year's conference semifinals match, South battled out James Madison to a 2-2 draw.
After a quiet few minutes, the Dukes got on the board in the 13th minute to grab the early advantage. South managed to fight back as
Irene Campo netted a goal in the corner to even the score in the 29th minute. The Jags offense continued to spark as
Amber Fortenberry connected with Campo as she grabbed her second goal in the 42nd minute to put South on top 2-1 to enter the half.
The Jags defense stood strong in the opening minutes of half two, as the Dukes created several offensive opportunities and made an aggressive push. The Dukes found some life in the 63rd minute as they would convert on a goal to tie the game at two. Both teams would engage in a back and forth affair with strong defense being played by both sides.
Allison Luckhardt's strong play in goal helped South slow down the Dukes as time moved forward, as the Olive Branch, Mississippi native recorded eight saves on the night. Both teams battled it out until the very end to a 2-2 draw to close out the regular season.
QUOTES
Chris Hennessey on the result, "They're a very good team, very well coached, all their players are really good and understand the game well. I think tonight we played like we trained yesterday, we are still heavy and leggy so hopefully that shook it off for us. We didn't play anywhere near our best but it wasn't an effort thing. I still think that was there, and we got a result at the end of the day so if we're not playing well and getting a result hopefully we can turn that around and get on the positive end moving forward".
Getting ready for the tournament, "I feel good. We've got to shake this leggedness off right now. they've got heart they have fought all year they have shown down the stretch. I am not displeased with them tonight. We will be ready and I know that there is some great leadership within the team and a will to win so I am excited to help get them through that".
