NOTES & QUOTES
Â
– South Alabama is the best team in the country in the red zone, scoring on 100 percent of its trips inside the 20-yard line. The Jags are one of just eight teams so far this year to be perfect in the red zone.
Â
–
Caullin Lacy is the only receiver in the country with five touchdown receptions of 35 yards or more. All five of his touchdowns have been explosive plays of 35-plus yards. Those five touchdowns rank sixth in the country, and he is 12th in the country in receiving yards with 435.
Â
– Running back
La'Damian Webb ranks 11th in the nation in total touchdowns with six, and eighth in the country in rushing touchdowns. Webb has scored two touchdowns per game in each of the Jags' last three contests.
Â
"You look at last week's game, those are always hard losses. Hard losses to learn from when you know that you came out of the gate playing really well. I thought our guys were really well prepared. Our coaches, our players did a great job on the week of preparation getting our guys ready to go."
Â
-Head Coach
Kane Wommack on a tough loss against Central Michigan
Â
"I saw some really good things. That's what we talked about this morning as a group, just taking care of the football, some of the explosive plays we created, and the ability to be down and come back in the fourth quarter and create a go-ahead drive."
Â
-Offensive Coordinator
Major Applewhite on the positives from the Central Michigan game
Â
"I was disappointed in our ability to be more physical against the quarterback. The quarterback run game was a big part of what got them going. And then our ability to finish on the quarterback. A couple of our better players had free shots on him, and we don't finish."
Â
-Defensive Coordinator
Corey Batoon on the defense's performance against CMU
Â

Â
SERIES HISTORY
Â
Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Jaguars and Dukes. James Madison joined Southeastern Louisiana and Marshall as opponents that USA had never faced before heading into the season.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Â
In an all-night, back-and-forth battle, South Alabama took the lead with just under three minutes to play, but could not hold on as Central Michigan drove down the field to score with seconds remaining and secure a 34-30 victory Saturday night at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
Â
Despite the loss, South outgained the Chippewas, 405-355, on the night. The Jags rushed for 151 yards to CMU's 125 and threw for 254 yards to Central Michigan's 230. The USA defense also made eight more tackles than CMU for the game, but struggled to get off the field on third down as the Chips converted 9-of-13 third-down attempts.
Â
QuarterbackÂ
Carter Bradley threw for 254 yards on the night with two touchdowns, including a 72-yard bomb toÂ
Caullin Lacy in the fourth quarter. It was Lacy's fifth touchdown of the season of 30 yards or more as he also scored from 35 yards out in the first quarter. Lacy finished the game with six catches for 132 yards and two scores. On the ground,Â
La'Damian Webb andÂ
Kentrel Bullock paced the Jaguars with 68 and 65 yards, respectively. Webb scored twice on the night, while Bullock ripped off a long rush of 29 yards.
Â
Defensively,Â
Quentin Wilfawn had a big game with 10 tackles, eight of which were solo.Â
Jaden Voisin added eight tackles, andÂ
James Miller compiled seven.Â
Yam Banks andÂ
Charles Coleman IIIÂ each recorded sacks on the night, andÂ
Jamie Sheriff earned 1.5 tackles for loss along with Banks.
Â
The Jags started off hot, quickly going up 14-0 on their first-two drives of the game. CMU then responded to make it 14-13 going into halftime. The Chippewas continued to carry that momentum into the second half and held the lead until there was just 2:42 on the clock in the fourth quarter. A Webb touchdown from one yard out put South Alabama up in the final minutes, but the Chips went 75 yards in just over two minutes to score the game-winning touchdown with just 13 seconds remaining.
