MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Women's Basketball Head Coach Yolisha Jackson announced Monday the addition of transfer Kamaria Gipson to the Jaguar roster, who comes to Mobile after one year at UT Arlington and two at San Diego State.
Gipson, a forward from Beeville, Texas, averaged 4.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game during the 2022-23 season. She started 12 games in 31 appearances as a junior and shot a team-best and career-high .560 from the field. Gipson totaled six games with 10+ points and scored a career-high 14 points vs. Tarleton. The junior had two double-doubles on the season (12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 points, 10 rebounds), and ended the season starting nine games in a row.
In her sophomore season at San Diego State, Gipson averaged 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, while shooting .456 from the field. She made 18 starts in 28 appearances and led the team with 19 blocks. She totaled a season-high 12 points against UC Irvine, her only double-digit game of the season.
As a freshman, Gipson averaged 4.0 points and 5.3 rebounds and shot .481 from the field. She appeared in 22 games as a freshman for the Aztecs, starting 12. She led the team with 12 blocks and had two double-figure appearances. She recorded her first career double-double against Colorado State, totaling 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Prior to her collegiate career, Gipson played four years at A.C. Jones High School, where she totaled 2,655 career points, which is the 32
nd most in Texas high school history. She averaged 22.5 points, 15.2 rebounds and 5.7 blocks per game her senior year, and helped A.C. Jones finish with a 33-3 record, advancing to the 4A regional quarterfinals. Gipson is a three-time District 30-4A MVP and was named the District 30-4A Newcomer of the Year as a freshman.
