MOBILE, Ala.| Former South Alabama men's basketball player
Trhae Mitchell and the Houston Rockets have been one of the top teams in the 2023 NBA 2K24 Summer League this month having ended their regular season with a perfect 4-0 record.
As a result, Mitchell and the Rockets have positioned themselves for a championship run as they will now enter a four-team bracket beginning Sunday as they open up with the Utah Jazz the Thomas & Mack Center at in Las Vegas, Nev., which will be aired on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. (CT).Â
The winners of the two semifinal games will face off against each other on Monday at the Thomas & Mack Center in the championship game which will be aired on ESPN at 8 p.m. (CT).

Mitchell entered Summer League action after completing his third season as a member of the Grand Valley Vipers, an affiliate of the Houston Rockets in the G-League. He started 24 of the 27 game in which he played, averaging 9.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest. He was tied for 17th in blocks and 25th in the league in rebounds, while GV ended the season with 18 wins and advanced to the finals for the second-straight season.
The 6-foot-6 guard/forward recorded 11 double figure scoring games, 11 games of nine or more rebounds and four double-doubles. His best outing of the year came on a 26-point, 16-rebound effort in a victory over Iowa where he was 11-for-19 from the field.Â

The former Jag helped Grand Valley to the G-League Championship in his second season where he appeared in 28 games for the Vipers, averaging 9.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks, while shooting over 50 percent from the floor. He recorded double figures 16 times throughout the season and finished with six double-doubles during the 2021-22 season.
Mitchell earned third-team all-Sun Belt during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, finishing his Jaguar career with 1,127 points, 704 rebounds, 310 assists, 185 blocks and 110 steals in 125 appearances in four years with the program. The guard is third in school history in career blocks and is sixth in the record books in rebounds. The former Jag is also the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in the same season, and the second to have 200 rebounds and 100 assists in one year.
