MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will compete in four non-conference tournaments, including hosting the Jaguar Invitational and the Alabama Showdown, and will play eight Sun Belt Conference matches at Jaguar Gym as part of the 2023 schedule released Thursday by head coach Jesse Ortiz.
 
South will open the season in Jag Gym, hosting the four-team Jaguar Invitational Tournament. The Jags will face Stephen F. Austin (Aug. 25) to kick off the season, followed by a matchup with Jackson State (Aug. 26). The Jags will close out the weekend with a match against Tulane on Aug. 27.
 
South Alabama will then travel to Clemson, S.C., Sept. 1-3 for a tournament hosted by the Tigers, where the Jaguars are set to face Green Bay (Sept. 1), Clemson (Sept. 2) and Western Carolina (Sept. 3).
 
The following weekend, South will play in a tournament hosted by Florida A&M and will play Florida A&M (Sept. 7), Georgia Tech (Sept. 8) and Stetson (Sept. 10).
 
South will return to Jag Gym Sept. 14-16 to host another tournament, this time the Alabama Showdown. South will open the tournament with a match against Auburn on Sept. 14, followed by a match against Samford on Sept. 15. The Jags will close the weekend, and their nonconference slate, with a match against UAB on Sept. 16.
 
South opens its Sun Belt Conference schedule at home, hosting Southern Miss Sept. 21-22. The Jags then travel to ULM for two matches on Sept. 28 and 29.
 
Arkansas State then comes to Jaguar Gym the following weekend for a pair of matches (Oct. 6-7). The Jags then hit the road the next two weekends, traveling to Louisiana on Oct. 13 and 14, and Texas State on Oct. 20-21.
 
South welcomes in-state rival Troy to Jag Gym on Oct. 26 and 27, before hitting the road for the final time, traveling to Coastal Carolina on Nov. 3 and 4.
 
The Jags close out their regular season slate by hosting 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champs James Madison for a pair of matches on Nov. 10 and 12, before heading to Foley, Ala., to open the SBC Tournament (Nov. 15-19).
