MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama men's tennis closes out their 2023 home slate this week, hosting Georgia Southern on Sunday at 10 a.m. and Georgia State Monday at 12:30 p.m.
The Jags (11-7) had just one match over the weekend, beating in-state rival Troy 4-3 to improve to 4-1 in conference play.
In the latest ITA rankings, South Alabama cracked the top 75, coming in at No. 74.
In South's win over the Trojans, the Jags took the doubles point with wins from the duos of
Jack Clements/
Maxime St-Hilaire and
Sebastien Collard/
Martin Bugaj. In singles, South claimed three courts while Troy claimed the other three, giving South the 4-3 advantage.
Senior
Sebastien Collard is now 11-6 on the year and is riding a five-match win streak. Collard is 5-0 in conference matches this season, all from the number one spot, and is the only undefeated No. 1 in conference play this season.
Senior
Martin Bugaj is 12-3 on the year, while sophomore
Maxime St-Hilaire leads the team with 13 wins on the season while losing five.
Georgia State is 4-14 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. The Panthers were 1-1 last weekend, losing to nonconference opponent Charlotte and beating Coastal Carolina 4-3.
Georgia Southern is 14-4 on the year and 3-1 in Sun Belt play. The Eagles were 1-1 last weekend, falling to No. 71 Old Dominion but beating Coastal Carolina.
South is 9-8 all-time against Georgia State and leads the series 9-2 against Georgia Southern.
Sunday's match is senior day, and the program will honor three seniors –
Louis Delcour,
Sebastien Collard and
Martin Bugaj – before the match.
All home matches are held at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts and admission is free.
