MOBILE, Ala. – Nebraska defeated South Alabama baseball 15-3 Saturday at Eddie Stanky Field.
The Cornhuskers used a six-run seventh inning, in addition to a four-run second frame, to clinch the three-game series.
Nebraska right-hander Jace Kaminska (1-0) allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk in 5 1/3 innings to earn his first win of the season. Jaguar left-hander
Gehrig Conard (0-2) allowed five runs, only one of which was earned, with a career-high seven strikeouts against one walk in four innings pitched in the loss.Â

Erick Orbeta went 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored, and
Tyler Borges added two hits and one run scored. Nebraska shortstop Brice Matthews finished 3-for-4 with a double, one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Huskers at the plate, Dylan Carey added two hits, two RBIs and two runs and Will Walsh hit one home run, drove in two runs and scored three runs.
Nebraska's 15 runs are the most allowed by a Jaguar team since a 15-2 loss at No. 13 Arkansas in 2020.
How It Happened
•   (T2) Nebraska scored the first run of the game when Garrett Anglim reached on an error by
Mitchell Heer on a grounder to third, which scored Will Walsh who reached on a throwing error by Heer on a grounder to third to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a balk by left-hander
Gehrig Conard, 1-0 Nebraska.
•   (T2) The Cornhuskers doubled their lead on an RBI single to center field by Gabe Swansen, 2-0 Nebraska.
•   (T2) Nebraska added its third run of the inning when it loaded the bases and Dylan Carey delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, 3-0 Nebraska.
•   (T2) The Cornhuskers scored their final run of the inning on a two-out RBI single to left-center field by Max Anderson, 4-0 Nebraska.
•   (B2) South Alabama answered with its first run of the game on a two-out RBI single to center field by
Colson Lawrence that scored
Tyler Borges, who reached on a two-out single to center field, 4-1 Nebraska.
•   (T3) Nebraska added a run in the top of the third when Anglim scored from third when Swansen got caught stealing in a 2-4-3-6 rundown attempting to steal second, 5-1 Nebraska.
•   (T5) The Cornhuskers took a six-run lead on a two-run home run to left-center field by Walsh, 7-1 Nebraska.
•   (B5) USA added its second run of the game on an RBI groundout to first base by pinch-hitter
Hunter Donaldson, which scored
JG Bell who singled through the left side of the infield with one out in the inning, 7-2 Nebraska.

Will Turner delivered a two-out RBI double to right field that scored
Erick Orbeta, who doubled earlier in the inning, 7-3 Nebraska.
•   (T6) Nebraska added to its lead on a one-out single through the right side of the infield by Dylan Carey, 8-3 Nebraska.
•   (T7) An RBI double to left field by Anglim gave the Huskers a six-run advantage, 9-3 Nebraska.
•   (T7) Nebraska added two runs on a fielding error with the bases loaded by Orbeta on a grounder to second, 11-3 Nebraska.
•   (T7) Brice Matthews delivered a three-run home run to left field, 14-3 Nebraska.
•   (T9) Nebraska scored the game's final run on a wild pitch.
