Jags fall on the road to No. 12 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of No. 12 Florida State, dropping the contest 45-80.

The game was South's first against a ranked opponent since the Jaguars fell to Georgia on Dec. 21, 2021.

Tyrielle Williams led the Jaguars with 11 points, while Zena Elias brought down 12 rebounds.

The loss was the second game in double figures this season and the fourth of her career for Williams. The redshirt sophomore guard finished the afternoon shooting 3-for-6 from the field while hitting two threes. The contest was the first double-figure rebounding game for Elias this season, the fourth of her career.

The Jaguars shot 22.2% from the field, a season low, and the lowest from a Jaguar squad since South shot .250 vs App State in 2019.

Five Seminoles finished in double figures and the team was led by Makayla Timpson who finished with 17. Timpson also brought down 11 rebounds, recording her second double-double of the season and the 15th of her career.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Yolisha Jackson:
On what went well and what went wrong:
"I am proud of our team to be able to come in here and execute some of the stuff we talked about. I felt like we got open shots early and if a couple of those fall, then it changes the view of the game. I felt like Tyrielle Williams had a really good game today. She's been good at practice, and it was good to see it carry over. Hats off to Florida State, they are number 12 in the country for a reason. Their kids played really hard and they made more shots than us."

On preparing for two games in Denver:
"I don't think there is anything we change strategically going into the Denver trip. We need to get some rest and recovery because we do play back-to-back games. I like our matchups against Denver and Nevada. We need to talk about boxing out a little bit better, we've been a good rebounding team until tonight, so we need to work on that and fix that. We need to get back in the rhythm of shooting and making sure after the play, we continue to move the ball. Nothing we need to really change, we just need to be us and be prepared and go get two in Denver."
