Five different scorers lead South to shutout win over Louisiana

MOBILE, Ala. – Five different Jaguars found the back of the net Sunday afternoon, leading South Alabama to a shutout win over Louisiana, South's 12th win of the season.

The Jaguars put pressure on the Louisiana defense from the start of the first whistle, taking 14 shots in the first half, while holding Louisiana to zero. Despite double-digit shots, South could not capitalize, and the match was tied at 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.

South Alabama found its groove coming out of the half and scored five second-half goals, all from different scorers.

Graduate defender Abby Jacobs broke the stalemate in the 55th minute, off an assist from Gracie Wilson. Wilson's assist made her the program's leader in career assists with 31.

The Jags extended their lead just two minutes later with a goal from Rebecca Calderoni Martinez, her first goal in a Jaguar uniform.

Gabby Hollar joined in on the action in the 73rd minute, scoring her 10th goal of the season off a corner from Amber Fortenberry.

Sydney Ham found the back of the net in the 75th minute off a pass from Jasmine Greene, who split two defenders to pass the ball to Ham, which gave Ham her first goal of the season.

Kailey Littleford ended the day for the Jaguars with a late goal in the 87th minute, off another assist by Greene.

The Jaguars finished the day with 21 shots and were led by Hollar with six. The 21 shots are a season-high vs. a conference opponent.

Jaguar keeper Jaidy Gutierrez Campo faced just one shot on the day and recorded her seventh clean sheet of the season.

SCORING SUMMARY
QUOTABLE
Head Coach Richard Moodie:
"The girls were amazing. It's been a good week. This is the first game of a single-game week that we have come out and got a result. The other two we tied. That was a big focus this week, just preparing them properly. Fall break may have helped, having a few days off. The girls worked hard this week and I think it showed."

On how capable this team is:
"Lafayette is a great team, they beat USF and Old Dominion, not a bad team we were just extremely good today. I think that speaks volumes to the talent pool we have here and the depth we've got. Girls game off the bench, Kailey Littleford and Rebecca Calderoni Martinez, and both popped up on the score sheet today, we love to see it."

Junior Rebecca Calderoni Martinez:
On her first goal at South:
"We've been working all week and Monique Gray is an amazing player and got her head up and I was in the right place at the right time. It's what happens when you work hard."

Graduate Gracie Wilson:
On being the new program leader for career assists:
"It means everything. This program genuinely means everything to me. These past five years, I wouldn't change them for anything. This last year has been really sweet. This team is my favorite I've been a part of. I am very thankful."
