Jaguar defense on display in 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina

MOBILE, Ala. – A lone goal from Gracie Wilson proved to be enough for the Jaguars Thursday night, as South Alabama beat Coastal Carolina 1-0 to remain undefeated on the season.

South Alabama's defense was on display in Conway, holding Coastal Carolina to just two shots, while not allowing a shot from the Chanticleers until the 72nd minute of play. The Jaguars also maintained possession for 62% of the match compared to Coastal's 38%.

The Jaguars (13-0-2, 6-0-2) struck early, finding the back of the net in the 7th minute of action with a Gracie Wilson goal off an assist from Jasmine Greene. The goal was Wilson's fifth of the season and Greene's sixth assist.

The Chanticleer defense stepped up after South Alabama took the lead, holding off the Jaguar attack for the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, South applied immediate pressure, with Wilson taking two shots on goal in the first three minutes of play, but could not capitalize again. Wilson led the South Alabama attack, taking five shots on the night, while South took a total of 11 shots.

Junior goalkeeper Jaidy Gutierrez Campos faced just two shots on the right and made zero saves. She also recorded her ninth shutout of the season.

The Chanticleers played two keepers in the match after starter Vivienne Carr got a red card in the 44th minute of play. Hope Morrow played the remainder of the match and recorded one save.

SCORING SUMMARY

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Richard Moodie:
"Thought the girls played really well. We got a goal in the first 10 minutes, we came out flying. Unlucky not to go a couple up early on. I think Coastal did an excellent job, they had a good game plan. They then had 10 players, and sometimes you think that's easier to play against but sometimes it's harder. I think the girls handled themselves really well. Really professional performance from start to finish. And three points on the road, then back to finish the season at home."

NOTABLES
