MOBILE, Ala. – Due to forecasted weather in the Mobile area on Sunday, the South Alabama women's tennis match versus West Alabama has been moved. The Jaguars will now open the 2023 spring season on Monday with first serve set for 1:30 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
The match is the first of five-straight on South's home court to open the season. South Alabama, the reigning Sun Belt Conference champions, posted a 10-1 record in conference play last spring. The Jags return four from last year's roster, including
Luminita Tutunaru, who was named second-team doubles all-Sun Belt. Tutunaru and former partner
Nikola Kohoutova went 15-5 overall, all at number one doubles.
Tutunaru was also 10-5 in singles last season, all at number three, and
Otoha Aoki and
Delien Kleinhans went 15-5 and 6-2, respectively in singles action.
South Alabama also added three newcomers to the roster, two freshmen,
Tereza Dejnozkova and
Chems Doha Zeghlouli, and Ole Miss transfer
Elysia Pool.
The Jags posted a 22-5 record last year, while West Alabama went 20-5. South Alabama and UWA have met four times, with South winning each of those matches.
