MOBILE, Ala. | The South Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will begin their season on Friday as they host the Azalea City Classic held at Brookley by the Bay. The women's 5k race will begin at 6:10 p.m. and the men's 5k are set to start at 6:40 p.m.

Pre-Race Notes

• Friday marks the 48^th running of the Azalea City Classic hosted by South Alabama.
• In the 2021 Azalea City Classic, the South Alabama male runners took seven of the top 10 spots (1-6 and 9).
• The Azalea City Classic is the only scheduled home meet of the season for the Jags.
• A South Alabama runner has won the men's competition each of the past four years and seven of the last nine.
• On the women's side, a Jaguar has taken top individual honors for each of the last seven seasons with Magaud doing so last year.
• Three runners, Costa, Thompson and Pkemoi will make their debuts for the Jaguars.
• In last year's race, South's men's team took home the top spot with only 15 points. They have won the team competition seven of the past nine years.
• The Jaguars return two all-SBC first team performers from last year – Magaud and Kirami Yego.
