NEW ORLEANS – After winning their respective races over the weekend and leading their teams to team titles, South Alabama cross country runners Adele Magaud and Xavier Johnson were each named the Sun Belt Conference Runners of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The selection marks the 20th selection by a female runner at South Alabama and first for the program since the 2020 season when Caroline Millenaar earned the award three times that fall. It is the first of Magaud's cross country career. On the men's side, Johnson's selection marks the 48th all-time for the program.

The dual selections mark the first time since September 17, 2020 – Millenaar and Kirami Yego – that South Alabama has swept the weekly league award.

After capturing first-team all-conference honors last season, Magaud opened her 2022 campaign in strong fashion as she earned her second career victory crossing the line with a time of 19:02.6 in the women's 5k at the Azalea City Classic. With her win, a Jag female runner has now taken home top individual honors on the women's side at the meet for each of the last eight season's dating back to the 2015 (JoAnna McCoy). Led by Magaud, the Jaguar women also took home the team title.

In his first collegiate cross country race, Johnson earned his first victory for South Alabama, as he recorded a time of 15:38.8 in the 5k race at the 48th running of the Azalea City Classic. The freshman distance runner's victory marked the fifth-straight time and eighth in the last 10 years that a South Alabama male runner has paced the field at the Jaguar home meet. Johnson was one of four runners for the Jags to place inside the top 10 as South took home team honors as well.

South will next compete at the North Alabama Showcase in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday. The men's 8k is scheduled to start at 7:30 am at John Hunt Park with the women's 5k to follow at 8:15 a.m.
