NEW ORLEANS – After recording 16 league wins this season, the University of South Alabama softball team earned the No. 2 seed at this spring Sun Belt Conference Championship, which will be held at Jaguar Field, May 10-14. 

The Jaguars (24-19, 16-6 SBC – .727) edged out Texas State (35-17, 19-8 SBC –.704) by percentage points    `. 

USA received a first-round bye will open up tournament play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the winner of the No. 7 seed Georgia State (19-31, 9-15 SBC) / No. 10 seed Georgia Southern (13-33, 6-18 SBC) matchup as the two clubs will play in an elimination game on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

South Alabama is seeded second in the league tournament for the first time since 2016 and the sixth time in program history. The Jags hold a 14-4 tournament record as the second seed and has advanced to the championship game and/or won the championship as the second seed four times.

This year marks the third time in program history that South has hosted the league championship event and the first since 2016. The Jags have captured the tournament title three times during program history: 2012, 2013 and 2015, while advancing to the championship game in 2014 and 2021.
