CCU TAKES SERIES OPENER FROM JAG BASEBALL

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina scored 11 unanswered runs in an 11-2 series-opening win over the University of South Alabama baseball team Thursday at Springs Brooks Stadium.

USA (30-21, 16-12 SBC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after plating a run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Joe Sutton, and an RBI single by Charles Middleton in the top of the second. Coastal Carolina (35-16-1, 20-7-1 SBC) tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run by Nick Lucky, scored four runs in the fourth inning, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.

UP NEXT
South Alabama will return to action Friday when it faces Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m (CT) at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.

GAME FACTS
- South Alabama jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Sutton delivered a two-out RBI single down the left field line to score Will Turner, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
- The Jags doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the second when Diego Altamirano led off the inning with a double to left field, and scored on an RBI single down the left field line by Middleton.
- CCU tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run to left field by Lucky.
- The Chanticleers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a double steal that scored Matt McDermott from third after he led off the inning with a double. An RBI single by Eric Brown doubled the CCU lead at 4-2, and an RBI single by Chris Rowan Jr. two batters later gave Coastal a 5-2 lead. A two-out RBI single by Graham Brown later in the inning pushed the CCU lead to 6-2.
- A two-out, two-run single by Graham Brown in the bottom of the sixth gave CCU an 8-2 advantage.
- The Chanticleers took a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield by Tyler Johnson. Kameron Guangorena followed with a two-run single to right field for an 11-2 lead.

NOTES
- Diego Altamirano extended his on-base streak to 30 games with a leadoff double to left field in the top of the second. 
- Simington's hitting streak was snapped at seven games.
- Middleton led the Jags at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sutton added one hit and one RBI.
- Hunter Stokes passed Tyrone Dixon for second on the career games played record list at 231.
