MOBILE, Ala. – Bodine Degli-Umberti broke the school discus record while the University of South Alabama track and field team kicked off its weekend while being represented at three different meets Thursday and Friday.
The Jaguars' weekend started on Thursday at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) in Chula Vista, Cali., where Francois Prinsloo (62.24m) placed fifth in the discus at the CVEATC Elite Discus Invite. Prinsloo and three other Jaguars— Sebastian Loschner (53.43), Degli-Umberti (51.27m) and Colette Uys (50.92m)— competed in heats that featured Olympic champions.
The Jags' throwing squad then competed at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif., Friday where Degli-Umberti earned a win in the discus throw while breaking the program record with a 52.69m mark. Uys (52.63m) finished in the runner-up spot in the same event and placed third in the hammer throw while improving her personal best with a 58.73m mark. South Alabama alumna Autavia Fluker (70.56m) took home the victory in the hammer throw.
The rest of the South Alabama track and field team started its weekend of competition at the UAB Green and Gold Invite and Multi in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday.

WOMEN'S FIELD NOTES
- Degli-Umberti broke the school discus record and recorded a victory with a 52.69m mark. Uys (52.63m) finished second in the same event while breaking her personal record.
- Uys recorded a personal-best hammer throw mark of 58.73m for a third-place finish in the event.

MEN'S/WOMEN'S FIELD NOTES
- Hanna-Mai Vaikla placed second in the heptathlon (4,773 pts) after picking up three wins in the shot put (11.99m), long jump (5.44m) and the javelin (39.56m).
- Viktor Turek notched a third-place finish with a 55.41m mark in the hammer throw. Quinton Webb finished fourth in the same event after posting a 55.08m throw.
- Kira Benkmann took third place in the hammer throw with a 49.93m mark.
- Josh Estes (57.88m) and Kobe Cox (56.94m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the javelin.
- Evans Finnorn placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.56m.-
MEN'S/WOMEN'S RUNNING NOTES
- Giacomo DeLuca (3:58.67) and Kirami Yego (4:00.35) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1500m.
- Adele Magaud recorded a fifth-place finish in the 1500m after clocking a time of 4:46.42.
- Rocio Chaparro had a personal record fall in the heptathlon 100m hurdles (14.70).
