Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On Walker Johnson:
"The story of the game was Walker Johnson. We got an outstanding pitching performance tonight. I thought he was absolutely phenomenal. You couldn't ask for more out of him, and that's exactly what we needed. His confidence was good and didn't taper off. His velocity was good and had a really good feel for his slider. His changeup was really good and he worked both sides of the plate. That is an outstanding club (Tulane) over there. Their 1-4 (batters in the lineup) is as good as anyone in the country, and he moved his fastball in and out and up and down. And the guys who came in behind him did a nice job as well."
- On the offense:
"Our 1-6 (batters in the lineup) drove in eight runs tonight, and Miles with four RBIs. Erick Orbeta was on base five times today, and you have to get guys on for someone to have a big RBI day and today it was Miles (Simington). Our guys did a really nice job of fighting to get on base. There weren't many hollow at-bats tonight. I am very encouraged with the way we competed at the plate, but the way we competed on the mound mainly. That was a complete game with offense, defense and pitching."
RHP Walker Johnson
- On his performance:
"It was good to get back in the win column. It's pretty easy to pitch with a defense like that behind you. My confidence grew as the game went on. I saw my defense making plays, and I knew the (coaching) staff was going to call the right pitches. Their sequencing was working and that gave me a little more confidence as the game went on. I was able to find a little bit of a rhythm and attack the strike zone like you want to, and I was able to find a groove."
