GAME FACTS
- Georgia Southern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a one-out, two-run triple to right field by Noah Ledford.
- The Jags loaded the bases in the bottom of the first on a leadoff walk by Will Turner, two-out single to shortstop by Santi Montiel and walk by Hunter Stokes. But Eagle right-hander Jaylen Paden struck out Erick Orbeta to end the inning and preserve a two-run Georgia Southern lead.
- The Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the second with one out on a hit by pitch to Sam Blancato, and consecutive walks by Kyler Hultgren and Jesse Sherrill. Jason Swan followed with a two-run single up the middle for a 4-0 Georgia Southern lead. A sacrifice bunt up the first base line by Christian Avant allowed Sherrill to score for a 5-0 Eagle advantage.
- A sacrifice fly to left-center field by Swan in the top of the fourth extended the Georgia Southern lead to 6-0. Avant reached on a throwing error by Montiel on a grounder to shortstop later in the inning that allowed Sherrill to score for a 7-0 Eagle lead.
- Erick Orbeta singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, and Diego Altamirano followed with a walk. Joseph Sullivan then delivered an RBI double to left-center field to plate Orbeta and cut the Eagle lead to 7-1. Cameron Tissue followed with a three-run home run over the left-center field wall – his second of the season – to cut the Georgia Southern lead to 7-4.

Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On the loss:
"You have to be good in all three phases against that team (Georgia Southern) over there. The game starts and stops on the mound, and tonight we weren't good enough where it mattered the most. It matters everywhere, but it matters the most on the mound, and we weren't good enough tonight on the mound against them. We had some chances; we had seven hits and hit another seven on the screws, and left some men on base. We loaded the bases and didn't get it done, and that hurt. Once again, we had the tying run at the plate in the seventh (inning) and Kasey Donaldson hit a ball well to left field. An hour earlier that ball is probably on the (Kit's Korner) deck, but it was an hour later. Credit Georgia Southern, they were better tonight and won the ballgame. But I'm proud of the way our guys fought. Our guys hung in there and fought their way back, we just weren't good enough tonight."
