YEGO NAMED SBC MEN’S TRACK PERFORMER OF THE YEAR; NINE EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama men's track and field's Kirami Yego was voted the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Year, as announced Tuesday by the league office. Nine Jaguars earned all-conference honors after their performances at this year's Sun Belt Indoor Championships. 

Fracnois Prinsloo (weight throw), Kyle Rademeyer (pole vault) and Yego (3,000m/5,000m) each took home first-team all-conference honors after winning their respective events. Riley Caudill (pole vault), Colette Uys (shot put) and Christian Ellis (triple jump) earned second-team honors while three Jags claimed third-team honors: Giacomo DeLuca (3,000m), Sebastian Loschner (shot put) and Adele Magaud (5,000m). 

Yego ran his way Into the Sun Belt record books this season, breaking the conference meet record on his way to a 5,000m (14:05.26) victory at the indoor conference championship. He also won the 3,000m at the SBC championship, clocking a time of 8:18.73. Yego took first in every 3,000m appearance except for a second-place finish he earned in his first meet of the season.

Prinsloo broke the school record with a 19.54m weight throw victory at the conference championship. 

Rademeyer earned his second consecutive indoor conference pole vault (5.37m) title at this year's conference meet. 

Caudill, a graduate transfer from Kentucky, finished in the runner-up spot and set a personal record in her first pole vault (3.86m) appearance at the SBC Indoor Championship. 

Uys set a PR while placing second in the shot put (15.42m) during the conference championship. 

Ellis recorded a 15.26m triple jump mark to take second place at the conference meet. 

DeLuca placed third and set a personal best in the 3,000m after clocking a time of 8:22 in his first SBC Championship appearance.

Loschner threw a 16.75m shot put mark for third place at this year's conference meet. 

Magaud ran the 3,000m in 9:58 and placed third at the SBC championship.
