REMEMBERING "SNOWMAN"Â Â Â
– Honoring the legendary spirit of the late Alex Wilcox, the softball community continues its "No One Fights Alone" campaign throughout the 2022 softball season.
– Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015, Wilcox defied the odds and continued to play softball throughout her treatments and helped lead Brantley (Ala.) High School to a pair of state championships. Wilcox, a Top 50 recruit in the class of 2017, committed to the Bulldogs during her junior season in high school.
– Over her freshman campaign, Wilcox continued to battle cancer while continuing to pursue her dreams of playing collegiate softball. She sparkled during the fall, displaying her ability at the plate with home run power.
– Despite being in the midst of chemotherapy treatments, Wilcox appeared in eight contests with three starts over her freshman season.Â
– Many teams continue to wear teal uniforms throughout the season to raise awareness for ovarian cancer in honor of the former softball student-athlete who passed away in 2018 at the age of 18 after a courageous fight with the disease.
– MSU immortalized Wilcox by retiring her No. 8 jersey on Sept. 15, 2018, making Wilcox the first female student-athlete in Mississippi State history to have her jersey retired.
– A permanent graphical fixture on the right field wall at Nusz Park was installed to commemorate Wilcox. The Bulldogs also re-branded the annual February Freezer tournament and now host the The Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial tournament in February, as that was Alex's nickname.

– Lackie set the tone in the first inning as she struck out the side – one of her four times to do so in the game – in the top half of the first and the first four batters of the game.
– The Walker, La., native went on to retire the side in order five innings in the contest.Â
– Along with her career-high 18 strikeouts, Lackie allowed just three hits and issued just one walk.
– She retired the side in order in the first, third, fourth, fifth and eighth innings, while striking out the side four times. The only inning that she didn't record at least one strikeout was the fourth where she retired the Bobcats in order.
– Lackie was able to get ahead of Texas State's batters as she went first-pitch strike to the first 21 she faced and didn't throw a first-pitch ball until the second batter of the seventh inning.Â
– Lackie also got ahead 0-2 counts on 12 times in the game, and posted nine of her strike outs in those counts. Only two batters managed to get on base after falling behind 0-2.
– Of her 115 pitches thrown, 73 percent were for strikes.
– The 16 strikeouts through seven marked the third most-in a seven-inning performance and the 18 were second-most in a game in program history, just two behind Beth Pilgrim's mark of 20 set in a 10-inning affair versus Middle Tennessee (3/27/10).
