MOBILE, Ala. – Sébastien Collard was announced as the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday by the league office. Collard joins teammate Maxime St-Hilaire to win the weekly award this season for the Jaguars.
Collard went 3-0 this weekend, including a 2-0 mark in singles playing at the No. 1 position. Collard defeated Coastal Carolina's Bastion Huon in straight sets on Friday as the Jaguars took down the Chanticleers in Sun Belt action. Collard continued his strong play on Saturday, as the Gatineau, Quebec, Canada native defeated New Orleans's Marcel Volz at No. 1 in three sets to clinch the match for South Alabama.
In doubles against Coastal Carolina, Collard and teammate St-Hilaire clinched the doubles point for the Jags with a 7-6(1) victory at No. 2. On Saturday, Collard and partner Philip Bosman led 6-5 at No. 2 before the Jags clinched the match point.
"It's very well deserved, said head coach Nick Brochu. "Seb [Collard] has been working very hard. He's played some big matches for us this year and had some big wins. He keeps working harder and harder each weekend. This weekend, it wasn't easy but he was able to get the win in both matches and he's also dominating doubles. I'm very happy and proud of him."
Collard is 21-7 in singles this season, including an 11-5 record this spring.The junior has won three of his last four matches in singles and is 6-2 over his past 10 matches this spring. In doubles, his 12 wins in dual match play is a team-high.
