Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On sweeping the doubleheader:
"I'm very pleased with today. The game starts and stops on the mound. Miles (Smith) was outstanding in the first game, and Jackson Boyd came in and did a really nice job. Their (JSU) guy (Isaiah Magwood) kind of shut us down, he was good. We won the back-half of the game from the fifth (inning). I'm really proud of our guys for stacking up really good at-bats in game one, and we had the big seventh inning with four runs. In game two, I thought that is as good as (Matt) Boswell has looked this year. Unfortuantely the bases were loaded and the ball was hit at a time of day when you can't see the ball. We couldn't see it last night in BP at that time, and it just happened at a bad time and the ball dropped in and cleared the bases. Joseph Sullivan would go through the wall to catch a ball, but didn't see it off the bat. Boz's numbers are very misleading today. They (JSU) are very good fastball-hitting team and Boz has a good fastball. Today he had to throw more breaking balls. He got better as a pitcher today; he was really good with his breaking ball. Walker (Johnson) came in and they made a run. I'm very proud of this team for weathering the storm. Walker really calmed down in inning two, found his changeup and was really good. Our guys just fought all game long. We hit a few home runs, but Kasey Donaldson with a big knock coming off the bench – that was huge off a nasty sidearmer. It took a whole team to win a doubleheader today, which it usually does. Winning doubleheaders is extremely hard to do, especially against a good team and on the road. I thought our guys were like a bunch of bulldogs all day long; they just kept coming. It was good to see some adversity and how our guys fought back and handled some bad stuff in the middle of the game when the game seemed like it was ours. You look up and it is 6-6, but it isn't like our guys had to re-focus; they stayed focused the whole game and just fought back. It was great to take two games; it's hard to do."
RHP Miles Smith
- On his performance:
"I was just trying to throw strikes. They (Jacksonville State) were really aggressive at the plate, and that kind of plays into my favor more than anything because when I have more than one pitch working I can get them out early in the count. My defense played incredibly well today; Santi (Montiel) made some really good plays. We didn't have an error today, and all you can ask for when your guy fills it up on the mound is to have a good defense like us to make plays behind you. I think it was in the fifth inning when I looked up and saw a zero in the hit column. I didn't think I was going to go nine (innings); I was getting a little tired and I had full confidence in our bullpen to take over and finish the game. I told Coach Calvi after the seventh that I was done. If it had been a closer game I probably would have gone back out there for the eighth, but I had full confidence in my bullpen."
