Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On the win:
"I thought (JoJo) Booker was great; one walk, four hits and probably shouldn't have even given up an earned run. That guy (Alex Carignan) wouldn't have come up if we handle the ball a little better, but JoJo has been around the block and been in a lot of big games and logged so many innings for us. We usually play really good defense. We didn't for him early on, and he gave up the home run. The guy should have never come to the plate, but he did and hit it and Booker's pulse just stayed the same. And I think that just kept his teammates calm. I thought he was fantastic. Then two freshmen – (Eli) Runyan and (Eric) Lin – coming in with ice water in their veins; they were both outstanding. I am super proud of those three guys on the mound, and a very good job behind the plate by (Diego) Altamirano and (Reid) Powers. We did enough offensively to score some runs. That guy (JSU reliever AJ Causey) could pitch for anybody in the country. Our guys did a really nice job, and finally busting through with that RBI by (Will) Turner at the end. Miles Simington, (Joseph) Sullivan and Turner with RBIs today, but there were a lot of guys working to get on. We got their starter out after five (innings), and our guys just did a great job of working and grinding through at-bats and wearing some of their pitchers down. We feel very fortunate to be on the winning side today."
- On sweeping the series:
"They (JSU) are going to win some games this year. They have some good players and good arms. Coming on the road (for a weekend series) for the first time, I wasn't worried. We have a bunch of returners, but a bunch of new guys too who have been on the road in college baseball: Â (Charles) Middleton, Simington and Landon Jordan. Those guys have been around the block playing college baseball on the road. Our guys handled themselves like professionals on and off the field, and competed hard all weekend and they were rewarded. It doesn't always come out your way, but when you play this hard you live with the results. Our guys played hard and I am pleased with the results."
