SOUTH ALABAMA MEN TAKE FOURTH AND WOMEN PLACE EIGHTH AT SUN BELT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of South Alabama's men's track and field team placed fourth while the women's team placed eighth Tuesday at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship in Birmingham, Ala. 

The Jaguar men's team scored 106.50 points while the women's team scored 64 points after two days of competition. Freshman Francois Prinsloo got the Jaguar momentum going early with a victory and new school record in the weight throw (19.54m/64-1) during day one. Freshman Kyle Rademeyer claimed his second straight conference title in the pole vault (17-7.25). Kirami Yego broke both his personal and conference championship records in his 5000m (14:05.26) victory while also claiming a victory in the 3000m (8:18.73).

MEN'S/WOMEN'S FIELD NOTES
- Kiara Risher took fifth place in the high jump with a 1.72m (5-7.75) mark. 
- Rademeyer claimed his second consecutive indoor pole vault conference title after recording a mark of 5.37m (17-7.25).
- Noah Mumme placed fourth in the pole vault with a 5.02m (16-5.5) mark.
- Prinsloo shattered his personal record and set a school record in the weight throw (19.54m/64-1). 
- Christian Ellis finished in the runner-up spot in the triple jump (15.26m/50-00.75). 
- Sebastian Reyneke posted a personal-best performance in the heptathlon (5,356 pts) while finishing fourth. 
- Sebastian Loschner took third place in the shot put after recording a mark of 16.75m (54-11.5) 
- Riley Caudill placed second in the pole vault (3.86m/12-8) while setting a PR. 
- Colette Uys notched a second-place finish in the shot put (15.42m/50-7.25) while setting a personal record. 

MEN'S/WOMEN'S RUNNING NOTES
- Yego won the 5000m while smashing his personal record and setting a new conference championship record with a time of 14:05.26
- Onesmus Kemboi finished the 5000m in 14:32.76 and placed fourth. 
- Adele Magaud set a personal best in the 5000m (17:21.34) and took fourth place. 
- The men's distance medley team of Charlie Slaughter, Cam Stewart, Brandon Knieja and Giacomo DeLuca placed fifth after posting a time of 10:14.10. 
- Slaughter also took fifth place while setting a PR in the mile, posting a 4:14.26 time.
- Kendal White finished fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.07) while posting a PR. 
- Magaud also placed third in the 3000m after finishing in 9:57.77.
- The Jags had two top-3 finishes in the men's 3000m, Yego (8:18.73) was victorious while DeLuca (8:22.04) finished in third place and set a personal best. 


THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Paul Brueske

- On the conference championship: "We had some setbacks during the meet, but the student-athletes didn't give up. We had a 
lot of student-athletes that had their all-time best performances. We're going to have to get better, I think we will be a stronger 
outdoor team."

- On the records set by Yego and Prinsloo: "We had a Sun Belt Conference meet record [set by] Kirami Yego, that was fantastic, 
he really did what we knew he was capable of. Then Francois Prinsloo set two personal bests and a school record in the weight 
throw and that is really great for him."
