SENIOR JOURNALS: ONE MORE TIME AROUND THE BASES WITH JAGUAR SOFTBALL'S KAMDYN KVISTAD

2/21/2022 11:38:00 AM

Six seniors are listed among the 2022 South Alabama softball roster, and each Monday throughout the 2022 season, one will give fans a view through their eyes as they recap the previous week. First up is Kamdyn Kvistad, who was able to accomplish a special milestone a little over an hour-and-a-half from her hometown in front of several family members as she recaps the five-game road trip to Florida State and THE Spring Games.

What's up Jag fans? Fifth-year graduate student Kamdyn Kvistad, here for your inside the scoop on the Jag softball travel week to Florida! We hit the road on Tuesday to match up with FSU in Tallahassee (Wednesday) and then onto The Spring Games (Friday through Sunday) in Leesburg Florida. Can't wait for you guys to follow along with us this weekend, GO JAGS!

TUESDAY
We started out the trip on Tuesday with a big JoJo Siwa birthday celebration! Shout out to our junior center fielder, Mackenzie Brasher, happy 21st birthday (2/15)!!! Next, myself and fellow fifth-year senior pitcher Allie Hughen had an ACC Network interview for the big upcoming week. We got to speak about our team, different softball strategies and how we are overall super excited to be playing in Florida all week/weekend. Other bus ride activities included doing homework, listening to music and playing different games. One of my favorite things to do on the bus with my teammates is play a game called Fishbowl. It is so funny because of how competitive we all are and how serious we even take card games. Fishbowl keeps us laughing and makes long bus drives go by fast.

WEDNESDAY
We started off the morning with team recovery and stretching with our strength coach, Coach Lo. Afterwards we went to each lunch at a local brunch shop called Bagel Bagel, I ordered a yummy bacon melt on an asiago bagel. After lunch we headed to the field to unload the bus and start warmups. We got our traditional pregame hacky sack in while also taking game day pictures with our iconic hype woman and good luck charm, Barbs! We hit the field vs FSU at 2 pm (ET), our Jag softball fans packed the house! We love the support system that is able to follow us on the road to watch us play. We battled all game, but ended up losing a heartbreaker, 4-3 against FSU. Our post game meal was delivered to the field from Jason's Deli and the Jags got back on the road to Leesburg, Fla. for the rest of the weekend tournament.

THURSDAY
We started the day breakfast at the hotel and then had some free time to hang out. Some people got caught up on schoolwork, others had the choice to sleep in. Next was a fan favorite for lunch, CHIPOTLE! I got a chicken bowl that fueled me for the rest of the day. After lunch, the team headed to the fields to practice. We got some split the field defense in, hitting in the cages and hitting on the field, and then ended the day with some live short game. The weather here in Leesburg has been incredible, sunny and a high of 76! After a hard day of work, we ended the night with dinner at Panera Bread. The restaurant was located in the middle of a community village, so the team got to walk around and enjoy live music, ice cream, and dancing.

FRIDAY
The day started early with breakfast at the hotel. We had the choice of waffles and French toast, sausage and ham, and other pastries and cereals. Soon after breakfast the Jags hit the road to play a pair of games against Missouri and Ohio State. After a hard day's work, we had a recovery workout in the pool at the hotel and then got showered for dinner. We all had the options of a ton of different restaurants at a place called the Sumter Landing and The Villages Market Square. I ate dinner with a couple of my teammates at VKI Japanese Steakhouse; I ordered steak and shrimp hibachi. For dessert, we went to Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Shop where I ordered a chocolate milkshake to top off my Friday night.

SATURDAY
Saturday morning rolled around, and the Jags did their everyday morning routine. We had breakfast and our pregame coffee. It was game day against Butler back at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. We completed the game and our awesome media relations guy, Kevin Beasley, wanted me to touch on my 29th career home run, which broke the home run record at South. It was an awesome feeling and an incredible achievement; my favorite part was that my whole family was there to celebrate with me.

We then stopped and got some post game lunch at Tropical Smoothie. I got a sunrise sunset smoothie with the chicken bacon ranch flatbread. We headed back to the hotel and had another pool recovery workout. We got some down time to shower, get some homework done, and hangout at the hotel with the family members that came and supported us this weekend. The locals were having a vintage car show in our hotel parking lot, so we got to walk around and look at all the old, cool cars during our free time. We wrapped up the night with dinner from Carrabba's. It was catered in, and the team ate it together in the hotel dining room. We had a ton of different options, chicken Alfredo, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and bread. It was all super yummy!

SUNDAY
The final day of our trip, Sunday, started bright and early. We had to load the bus up with our sleepover bags, equipment, and all other personal items. We had a 9 am start time against Liberty University, so we had to get to the fields around 6:45 am to unload and start our warmups. Post-game, we were asked to join them in prayer, and they gave us little devotional cards to take on the road with us. It was a super cool and sweet experience. Before heading back to Mobile, we stopped and got Firehouse Subs for lunch. The Jags were full and fueled, and ready to be back home!
