South Alabama men’s basketball drops close one to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | South Alabama men's basketball (3-6) could not complete the comeback, falling to the UAB Blazers (7-1) in Birmingham Sunday afternoon, 76-68.
 
Greg Parham II led the Jaguars with 30 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the 3-point line. Isaiah Moore and Owen White joined him in double figures, with 19 and 11 points, respectively. The defense held the Blazers under their season average of 92.1 points, but it was not enough to get the victory.
 
GAME FACTS (HOW IT HAPPENED)
  • The Jaguars made three of their first five shots, and the teams were tied at 7-7 four minutes into the game.
  • UAB went on a 12-to-5 run over the next six and a half minutes to take a 19-12 lead.
  • South followed that with six straight points to cut the deficit to one.
  • The Jags took their first lead of the game, 26-25, on a Parham 3-pointer with just under four minutes to go.
  • Moore finished the first half with 12 points, and Parham was right behind him with 10, as the Jags led by two, 31-29, at the break.
  • Parham made his third 3-pointer of the game early in the second half.
  • The teams remained close through the first ten minutes of the second half. The largest lead of the span was UAB +6, 50-44, at the 10:20 mark.
  • The Blazers went on a 10-3 run over three minutes to take a ten-point lead, 57-47, with 7:38 to play.
  • Parham made his fifth from behind the arc with five minutes to go.
  • The Blazers' led by 11, 66-55, with four minutes to go.
  • The Jags followed that with an 8-2 run in two and a half minutes to cut the lead to five with 1:20 to play.
  • The Blazers closed out the game, going 6-6 from the free throw line in the final 36 seconds.

  • Parham set a new season high with 30 points and made 3-pointers/attempts (5-of-10).
  • It is his second career game scoring 30+ points.
  • Kevin Samuel moved into the top-75 in all-time career rebounds. He now has 1,131.
  • The Jaguars held the Blazers to 16 points under their season average.
  • Parham's 30 points is the most by a South Alabama player this season. His 11 made field goals ties the team's season high.
  • Samuel's 14 rebounds are also the most by a Jaguar this season.
  • Moore has now scored in double-figures in every game this season.
  • Owen White made 3+ 3-pointers in his fifth game this season.
  • Tyler Shirley set a new career high with nine rebounds.
  • The Jaguars were outscored by the Blazers in bench points, 17-0.
