HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | South Alabama men's basketball (4-6) had their hottest shooting night of the season in a 78-71 victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (3-6) Monday evening at the Alabama A&M Event Center.
Greg Parham II and
Jamar Franklin each shot 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, helping the Jags to shoot 45.2% from distance, their highest mark of the season.
Kevin Samuel led the Jaguars with 20 points and eight rebounds, going a perfect 9-of-9 from the field. He was joined in double-figures by Parham, Franklin and
Isaiah Moore (10 points), who recorded his 70
th career game with double-digit points.
GAME FACTS (HOW IT HAPPENED)
- The Jaguars began the game with a 7-0 run in the first 2:44, a pair of Kevin Samuel layups and a 3-pointer from Greg Parham II.
- Owen White made his first three-point attempt to extend the Jags' lead to 10, 12-2, at the 15:00 mark.
- South continued to build their lead, taking an 18-to-6 advantage to the under-12 media timeout.
- Freshman Jamar Franklin made back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Jags a 20-point lead at the 8:34 mark of the first half, 26-6.
- Alabama A&M made efforts at a comeback, but the Jags held them at bay for the rest of the first half, as they led by 16 at the break.
- The Jags continued to maintain their lead, staying ahead 50-31 with 17:00 to go.
- Alabama A&M went on an 18-to-9 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 10, 59-49, with 13 minutes to go.
- The Bulldogs cut the lead to single digits, 59-52, with 12:20 to go.
- After A&M cut the lead to two, a layup by Samuel followed by a corner-three from Isaiah Moore back-to-back with 9:45 to go kept the Bulldogs at bay.
