MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama football hits the road for the final time in the 2022 regular season, facing Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon in a game that will be featured on the NFL Network.
Kick is set for 2:30 pm in Hattiesburg (Miss.).
The two teams have met twice previously, but this year's meeting could be the biggest of the series as South Alabama (8-2, 5-1 Sun Belt) looks to keep pace with West Division leading Troy and Southern Miss (5-5, 3-3 Sun Belt) looks to become bowl eligible with a win. The Jags are currently tied with Troy atop the division; however, the Trojans hold the tiebreaker due to a head-to-head matchup.
South Alabama has continued to have one of the best defensive units in Sun Belt Conference and in the country this season, having held seven opponents to under 100 yards rushing including holding Arkansas State to negative rushing yards for the game. The Jags currently are fifth in the nation in rushing yards allowed at 85.5 yards per game and are 12th overall in total defense at 295.9 yards per game. Offensively, the Jags are averaging 32.9 points per game (36th in the nation) and 427.6 yards per game (39th in the nation).
