THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
- On today's performance against Florida State:
"It was a very close match. I was really happy with the way the guys competed. In doubles, it was tough. These guys came out and were very aggressive on court number one. We didn't want to make mistakes and we played a little too safe and didn't finish some of the points. On courts two and three, we were fighting really hard. I was happy with the guys on three because that was their first time playing together. After doubles, we talked about just adjusting and taking it to them. Don't adjust to the other guys game, just be yourself and go at it. I was very happy and impressed with the way we competed. We had four matches go three sets. I think at one point, Florida State raised its level, and we need to do a better job at matching that energy. But, overall, I was really happy with the way that we competed. We didn't let them walk over us at all and we even had a set point at number one. We were just really competitive at every single position."
- On Stetson:
"It was a very long day. We train really hard and do a lot of cardio for days like today where we play two matches. But still, I was very proud of how our guys were able to dig deep and win tonight. Stetson is a good team. It was a big challenge. Number one, it was our second match of the day and it was Stetson's first match of the day. So, that was a big disadvantage for us. We also had a long battle with Florida State. We had to come back out and play big. I thought our top three guys stepped up big time. Max [St-Hilaire] stepped up and showed so much heart, he played for more than five hours combined today. He played eight sets of tennis. That's something that people sometimes do over three or four days and he did it in an afternoon. It was just really impressive and I'm really proud of him. I was happy with how he was able to stay focused even though he was physically drained. But at the same time, we knew the key for tonight's match was the doubles point and we stepped up big time. We were really aggressive and winning on all three courts. We were aggressive and we were cheering. So, winning the doubles point gave us a huge boost going into singles. We had our captains at one and two get us a quick point to put us up 3-0. After that, we struggled a little bit at the back but Max was able to close it. We just have to stretch and recover to get ready for tomorrow. I'm really happy with the way we fought this afternoon and the way we battled for another win tonight."
