THEY SAID IT
Head coach Nick Brochu

- On the performance after the first day: "It was a long day and it was very hot but I was very happy with the way the guys competed. Everybody gave 100%, so I was very happy with the intensity. There were some little things that I noticed today that we have to continue to work on. We have to close the set at the first chance we have. In doubles and singles, we would be serving for the first set and we let them back into the match. On the good side, we were still able to close that set. Once you get to the tiebreaker, it is 50/50. So, we have to work on being able to play the first two points very well. Especially, when you are serving for the set. So, that's one thing we need to work on tomorrow. Overall, I'm very happy. I'm happy with the way that Seb [Collard] had a quick start in the first set and with Jack [Clements] and Louis [Delcour] doing the same thing. Every time you win the first set, the other guys are trying to catch up so you definitely have the advantage physically and mentally. I'm very happy and there were a lot of positives today and the guys were aggressive. But, at the same time, we need to play these tournaments so that we can get into these types of positions so that we can become more and more comfortable. Overall, it was a good first day but we need take the opportunities to close the door on opponents as soon as we can."

- On Javier Montoya's performance: "I was very pleased with Javy [Montoya] today. He was the last one playing and he had to dig very deep. He won the first set and was way up in the second and let the guy back into the match. He got a little nervous. But, sometimes that's going to happen when you are a freshman. I was happy with the way that he was able to turn it around and close the match in the third set. He did a great job staying aggressive and making plays, and that's what you want to see from your freshman. You want to see a lot of energy, fire and passion and see them rise to the occasion. So, I was very pleased with him today."
